Now Viewing: kakeguruiTag type: Copyright (賭ケグルイ) Compulsive Gambler. A gambling-based thriller series written by Kawamoto Homura and drawn by Naomura_Tooru. The manga debuted in 2014 and has received multiple manga spinoffs that expand on various supporting characters in the series, all of which are written by Kawamoto but drawn by different artists. It has also received a comedy 4koma created by Kawamura_Taku. The manga was adapted into an anime TV series in July 1, 2017 by Mappa. The anime was directed by Hayashi Yuuichiro and written by Kobayashi Yasuko. The anime's jazz soundtrack was composed by TECHNOBOYS PULCRAFT GREEN-FUND. The series is set in Hyakkaou Private Academy, a private school for upper-class students. However, when class is over, the school is transformed into a gambling den/casino. Gambling is the most valued skill in the school to the point that one's skill/luck at gambling determines one's social status. The best players sit at the student council and the worst are the school's slaves/pets. Suzui Ryouta is one of the students at the school, but unfortunately for him, he has no talent for gambling and is stuck being Saotome Mary's pet. One day, a beautiful new transfer student arrives, Jabami Yumeko. She is a sweet and kind girl that Suzui is immediately attracted to while Mary sees this apparently naive girl as someone she can make money off of. She seems to be completely out of place in the academy's cutthroat environment but, to the surprise and shock of everyone, Yumeko soon reveals herself to be not only an expert gambler, but a girl who is so addicted to the inherent risk and thrill of gambling that she gets off of it. Yumeko defeats Mary on her first day at school and saves Suzui from his status as a pet. Yumeko takes the school by storm and gains the attention of the school's student council who see her as a threat and conspire to take her down. The series notably alternates between two art styles for the series. When the characters are acting 'normal' they are drawn in a more standard anime/manga style, but when the characters start going crazy over the high stakes gambling matches, their faces and eyes are suddenly drawn in extreme detail.
