We need more such type of tournaments where the nearly there get a chance to prove what they are made up of. CA had this vision of holding tournaments alongwith stronger countries by fielding their A side as well as their main squad.
Ten summers earlier Sri Lanka were the minnows of test cricket, and playing both Australia and the WI in the WSC that season, but then maybe the fourth team wasn't needed to artificially compensate for their "weakness" against the stronger teams.
Only thing i remember about this series apart from watching it live all those years ago were the kits...this was easily best design kits Zimbabwe and England ever had.. I liked Australia A kit more than Australia's

Blewett and Bevan also made appearances, and centuries in the last game of the preliminaries. The greatest second XI I can ever think of seeing.
