First chapter of the novel has already been translated. Here is the description from the group working on it: "A Japanese salary man stays logged in until the online service for the game ends, which results in the creation of a mega plot device similar to SAO and Log Horizon." I just hope they actually make full use of the potential of the scenario, because IT DOES HAVE A SHITLOAD OF POTENTIAL. It's just no-one in Japan has recognized the full capacity of that looming potential (or at least that said individual hasn't published a book yet). Log Horizon was a step further admittedly, but one can still transpose and apply the detailed political backdrops of a show like Rose of Versailles and Ghost in the Shell: SAC 2nd Gig into a video game setting more easily than one could possibly think at face value. All the ingredients are there!! USE THEM! PLEASE! However, it is from a light novel so I doubt it will because light novels cater to brainless teenagers 90 percent of the time. |

ANN also posted a short description: The story begins with Yggdrasil, a popular online game which is quietly shut down one day. However, the protagonist Momonga decides to not log out. Momonga is then transformed into the image of a skeleton as "the most powerful wizard." The world continues to change, with non-player characters (NPCs) begining to feel emotion. Having no parents, friends, or place in society, this ordinary young man Momonga then strives to take over the new world the game has become. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2014-08-28/over-lord-fantasy-rpg-light-novel-has-anime-in-the-works/.78118 |

Of course you can't judge an anime solely by its genre because that would be silly. But the synopsis is obviously something like NGNL and SAO mixed together and that really does not sound good. |

Synopsis said: The online game Yggdrasill, which once was hugely popular, is ending its service. Momonga is a player who had reached the top tier in this Yggdrasill world. Even as the end time had arrived, he did not logout. And something strange happened. He was transformed into The Strongest Grand Wizard and ported to another world, a world were the NPC's have emotions. And this Momoka, a young man who has no friend or life, or status, in the real world, vow to grab the top power in this alien world. Synopsis said: And something strange happened. He was transformed into The Strongest Grand Wizard and ported to another world, a world were the NPC's have emotions. Synopsis said: The Strongest Grand Wizard Oh snap, this completely opened my eyes. Tell me where can I purchase all volumes of this novel and preorder the first volume of anime. This is most likely the most promising story I have seen in my whole life. It's not just the best light novel, it's the best piece of literature. This show has potential to surpass even the likes of Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings. Scratch that, this might have a better story and better characters than Casablanca and Citizen Kane together. I have never been enlightened this much. Thank you Japan for giving us such a great masterpiece that the likes of Hayao Miyazaki, Satoshi Kon or Osamu Dezaki could have never made. I don't know what the writer's called, but he needs some awards and even a medal for creating the best story I will ever read and watch. |

You can't just decide that you don't want to log out of a game when they're shutting it down. Even if you tried to stay, you'll get forced out either way. And how was he able to transform into a skeleton overlord, what class was he originally? And because the game shut down, everything just changes out of nowhere, NPC start to have emotions? Also, the part with the MC having no parents, friends, or place in society suggests that he's a NEET. This might sound ignorant, but just from that synopsis, I can tell how the story is going to go. But I could be wrong, I'll probably have to look for translations to see how this is. |

It was bound to happen with the rise of the popularity of MMOs in the last decade. |
