Repeated vandalism

[edit]

For some reason the page has been vandalized twice with like 80% of the countries removed for no reason. Don't know if it's racism or ignorance or just someone trying to be funny but please don't. Danielbunchie (talk) 14:59, 18 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Japan is missing from the chart

[edit]

Where is Japan? Surakmath (talk) 18:35, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Exactly, and South Korea!? Having just returned from Japan, I would guess the percentage is close to zero. Anyone I met with at least basic skills eventually turned out to be not Japanese but from different South/East Asian origin (with exactly 1 exception, who coincidentally was also fluent in my mother tongue, big surprise) - not counting hotel staff where it's mandatory. Keeping my hopes up for South Korea, which is next on the bucket list. So I wonder why those are missing, while even the most obscure Middle East countries are included? The Gambia

[edit]

The figures are probably wrong for The Gambia. Juffermans state that 71% of the urban population speaks English (https://orbilu.uni.lu/bitstream/10993/6601/1/Juffermans%202007%20If%20I%20don't%20learn%20English%20I'm%20going%20to%20suffer.pdf). Also schools are in English, except for Islamic Schools. Juffermans and McGlynn also state that "English is the official language in The Gambia and is widely spoken by young people, particularly in the urban areas" (https://orbilu.uni.lu/bitstream/10993/6177/1/JUFFERMANS%20&%20McGLYNN%202009%20A%20sociolinguistic%20profile%20of%20The%20Gambia%20SS.pdf).
